*-TOO MUCH INFORMATION

I helped on a land steward work day today, for the McHenry County Conservation district. Sounds flashy don't it? It was grunt work, just hauling away branches of buckthorn and honeysuckle after the supervisors had come through with the chainsaw and cut the brush down. Honeysuckle is a non-native invasive species, did you know? That's kind of sad, I've always loved honeysuckle. Buckthorn is non-native and invasive too, but I didn't play with buckthorn as a child, so I don't have warm fuzzies about it.

Anyway, yes, grunt work, but in the most beautiful setting, way back in the woods. There was a pool of water (I think the previous owner had dammed it, I don't know if they'll pull that out or not) with a waterfall and several more small pools...huge rocks everywhere....very romantic setting. Too bad I didn't have any one to romance with...

Did anyone ever give you a book and say, "This book made me think of you!" and you feel all honored and stuff and you read the book and you then feel really....not good? It's a book of short stories and they're written well and yes, kind of in a style that I use...except I'm just shooting my mouth off here, and this woman was actually writing short stories. And you think, "the people in these stories? They are miserable. They're nasty, miserable, awful people, all of them." And yes, the book is like being inside your own head...but christ, did I really want to read that?

And then you wonder why in the hell your friend gave you this book and what she really thinks of you and if everyone thinks you're this miserable too and wonder how long it will take you to recover from this?

And think to yourself...I know she didn't mean it like that. She couldn't have. Could she?

So did all that ever happen to you? No? Okay, so it's just me.

I'm not finishing that damn book.
