Yeeeesh. I had my six month review today and got dinged down to a 1 on customer service because I apparently am not living up to.... Overly Happy Line Greeter/Order Taker
Actually the real problem isn't that these chipper freaks are stupid, it's that most of them are young and clueless (not the same as stupid)and they are constantly asking you questions that they don't need to know. "Hey, how you doin' today! How's your day? Where you headin'? Got any plans for the weekend? Is it supposed to rain? It looks beautiful out now. So do you live around here? What's your name? What do you do for a living? Is that a new car?"
What a load of crap. You know what? I am really nice...whenever the customers act like assholes I still smile and apologize. I'm always pleasant, I say please and thank you, and I smile at every one, even the jerks. I DO talk to people, but only if it's natural conversation and I'm not trying to get something else done. I don't try to get their damn life story. I worked a pick up shift at a different Bux last night, a 24 hour drive thru, and all four of the other people were exactly like that "ideal" barista. When I came in the shift manager even tried this nonsense on me while he was getting my info into their system. Dude, I don't know you. And you sure as hell don't know me. This is one shift, you are 25, we have nothing in common, get out of my face!
Shall we list their indescretions? We shall, because I'm in just that sort of snotty mood and need somewhere to vent.
- They didn't mark cups and I constantly had to ask what drink I was handing out.
- They told me to leave the drive thru window open, to let the summer breeze in they said...I could see the bugs flying in too. This is a health code violation.
- They didn't change the sanitizer water in the buckets or the counter and wands rags in the five hours I was there. The bucket should be changed every hour or when it gets dirty. The counter and wand rags should be changed every twenty minutes. These are supposed to be on timers.
- They ran out of chocolate whip cream...for the new specialty drink we have right now, mint mocha chip frappucino... and it took them over an hour to make more. It shouldn't take more than five minutes unless the whip canister isn't chilled and then it should only take twenty.
- They left the milk, the half and half, the whips out on the counter for sometimes an hour at a time... a major health code violation.
- They never timed shots, supposed to be done every hour. And they steamed on auto instead of manual. Every Starbucks store in the nation closed early a few months ago so we could specifically relearn bar skills, including always using manual steaming and timing shots and adjusting the grinders. This was a huge deal.
- One of the partners, who wasn't even a shift manager, grabbed the register key (they just left them next to the register) and made change for a twenty out of MY drawer and didn't even ask me if it was okay.
I should've said something about that last one, I really should have...she did it so fast and I was rather stunned that she'd done such a thing...and being from a different store...I was too shy and that's stupid because if my till is off I get in trouble.
....and this was a slow night. Even for my store it would have been slow, but they were moaning that it was crawling by (yeah, for me too, but because I have to put up with four lack-wit slobs). That store is 24 hours and they claim they're way too busy to clean properly, what the heck are they doing at 2:30 am every night? And I get marked down for a two (three is the best) on my cleanliness standards on my review. Puh-lease. I always, always follow sanitation standards in our store I also got marked down to a one on performance because I get "flustered" on bar and I'm not maintaining a "calm exterior." That's called focus and concentration people. When I'm flustered, you'll know it. I'll be making a hundred mistakes. Also, I shouldn't have to ask other people to make frappucinos or iced teas when there's five person coverage, unless we're slammed. You're supposed to be paying attention. Okay...I have issues. Yeah...I should've known something like this was coming down when I got that five of pentacles for my daily tarot pull last night.
I thank the gods I'm in MY store, a clean store, where people at least talk naturally (if a just a bit over familiar but not too much) and almost everyone works their butts off every day.
