The Worm Has Turned

I signed up to read some of my poems next month. I picked the short slot, so as not to overwhelm myself. I'll be falling back on old work, poetry I wrote over three years ago. I want to get started with something. I want to move on to short stories but I want to get the feel of reading and also read stuff I know has gotten a good reception before.

I went for the ragged bohemian poet look tonight, featuring a thrift shop shirt...man's white button-down that was custom-made for someone. The collar was all frayed. I love that. It must have done something for my confidence (strange that I often feel better...happier...wearing those torn clothes) because I actually stopped at the front desk and asked how I might be considered to have my artwork displayed. They do that at my library, display local artists. Well, it wouldn't be paintings, it would be my photographs. My good ones, not the trench warfare you can see on my Flickr site. The ladies at the desk said I have to talk to administration, they're only there Monday through Friday, nine to five. So okay, call tomorrow. If I haven't lost my edge by then, freak myself out with this sudden ability to just do things and talk to people without agonizing over it.

Long list of other stuff to do tomorrow, including calling the single optometrist in this area that takes Medicaid. I want new glasses. The ones I have now are ugly and falling apart. Have to call a Medicaid dentist too. Start digging up the garden bed before the lilies that are there now get too big (I'm putting intomatoes and herbs), writing my part for Beltane, on and on....

And the dishes. I really have to do the dishes.
