"It should be pointed out that it is a Federal offence to smelt national coinage. This is for educational purposes only."--Canadian Observer Upon attempting to find out if the oldish Canadian pennies were worth anything I came across this phrase, which struck me as funny as hell. Read it outloud! Based on other research I found said Canuck cents are worth maybe 2 cents each. Whoo hoo! We're eating Chinese tonight! I found a 10 rappen coin in a penny roll on Friday. I didn't know it was a rappen coin. That's a Suisse franc. When I first saw it I thought it might be Greek. It had a pretty lady's head on one side, with a sort of ancient Greek hairstyle. It said Confederatio Helvetica and on the other side it has a 10 in the middle of a wreath. Well, I should've known, "confederatio" isn't Greek. That's a Latin based term, dork. These coins are becoming interesting. Think about the history of coinage and how it links in with the history of tribes of people moving across Europe, how it links in with the changing political situations of different eras...it really is fascinating. Also coins are small and easily transportable and usually increase in value, especially after they leave circulation. And I seem to be coming across them more frequently. I've had more of a knack lately, for spotting a different coin in a handful. I'm still irked about the buffalo nickel (an original, not one of the new ones) I gave to StarWarsGuy, which was supposed to be MINE and he "lost" it. He happened to be at Sbux one day and I spotted the coin and got him to give me a nickel and change it out and then I never saw the damn thing again. Oh, I have someplace to go. Gotta be in McHenry by noon, later ya'll.
